Public Safety Canada has published its annual update on the threat to Canada from terrorism and violent extremism. It notes that the country’s threat environment has remained stable, while noting that dangers posed by those espousing violent interpretations of religious, ideological, or political views persists. The report also identifies threats posed by right-wing extremists, who have increasingly been highlighted as a significant domestic security threat in the U.S. The report provides an overview of the groups and causes that inspire individuals to commit violence, includes timelines of key plots and other activities conducted in or associated to Canada, describes terrorists’ tactics, and explains what Canada is doing in response.
