For Cybersecurity Awareness Month the key behavior we are highlighting today is using strong passwords. Using strong passwords is one of the key action steps that everyone can implement to increase their cybersecurity posture. Passwords are strong when they are greater than twelve characters. They are even stronger when they are randomly generated, such as with a password manager – WaterISAC highlighted the importance of using password managers in this previous post.  Most importantly, the best password is unique. In other words, one that you don’t use anywhere else.

The theme for this year’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month is, “See Yourself In Cyber.” Consequently, cybersecurity is not only a job for IT professionals, but everyone should be conscious of cybersecurity and how to stay safe online. Likewise, that means that everyone is invited to be part of the solution to better cyber resilience, including using strong passwords! Visit CISA for more Cybersecurity Awareness Month tips.
