Replacing the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program, the Building Resilient Infrastructure Communities (BRIC) program focuses on supporting “states, local communities, tribes and territories as they undertake hazard mitigation projects, reducing the risks they face from disasters and natural hazards.” Its guiding principles are community and partnership based, with a special emphasis on large projects and innovation. On August 4, 2020, FEMA released a Notification of Funding Opportunities that contains a $500 million of grant funding under the BRIC umbrella, prioritizing applications involving public infrastructure projects, critical infrastructure lifelines, nature-based solutions, and adopting modern building codes. The application process begins September 30, 2020, through the FEMA Grants Outcome system. Read more at FEMA.
