FEMA has opened the Hazard Mitigation Assistance competitive grant programs application period, accepting applications until 3 pm ET on January 31, 2020 for funding to assist state, local, tribal, and territorial governments to reduce disaster losses and protect life and property from future disaster damages. For the current period, $410 million is available through the Flood Mitigation Assistance Program, which intended for flood mitigation planning and efforts to reduce repetitive losses, and the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program, which is designed to implement a sustained pre-disaster natural hazard mitigation program with the goal of reducing overall risk to population and structured from future hazard events. Eligible applicants must apply through the FEMA eGrants system on the FEMA Grants Portal. FEMA is also hosting a series of webinars about hazard mitigation assistance grants, on October 8, 16, and 21 (see the Upcoming Events section below for more details).
