FEMA just released a new resource guide, Roadmap to Federal Resources for Disaster Recovery, which offers information to help state, local, tribal, and territorial partners navigate some of the commonly identified post-disaster challenges, solutions, and federal financial resources available for recovery.
The Roadmap serves as a useful informational guide for organizations seeking to understand the post-disaster recovery resource landscape. According to FEMA, “The Roadmap presents challenges commonly encountered during recovery from major disasters. Each challenge is followed by potential solutions along with specific federal programs that may provide funding for state, local, tribal, and territorial entities to help implement those potential solutions.” A range of federal resources are available before and after a disaster, including grants, loans, reimbursement, technical assistance, and other types of assistance. However, the guide focuses primarily on funding programs. Additionally, the roadmap has a section dedicated to the recovery and resilience of critical infrastructure. Specific funding opportunities for infrastructure operators to apply for following a disaster are listed and funding for increasing the resilience of infrastructure entities to mitigate the impacts of future disasters is also detailed in the report.
