A new report by McAfee details the increasing prevalence of ransomware and cloud security threats. The study, Advanced Threat Research Report: Oct - 2021, highlights that ransomware attacks continued to increase and were one of the most prevalent forms of cyberattacks in the second quarter of 2021. In particular, the ransomware group REvil/Sodinokibi accounted for 73 percent of all ransomware detections in the second quarter, according to the report. A number of notable ransomware attacks, such as the Colonial Pipeline attack, propelled the issue into the national spotlight and earned it much needed attention from the White House. Additionally, cloud security continued to prove challenging to defend as threats proliferated due to a more dispersed pandemic workforce. Government was the sector most targeted by ransomware followed by critical infrastructure entities. Finally, malware was observed as the most prevalent attack vector and spam incidents witnessed the highest reporting increase. Read more at HelpNetSecurity or access the full report at McAfee.
