The National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC) recently published a report, NIAC:  Workforce and Talent Management Study, examining America’s current critical infrastructure workforce and providing recommendations to improve and strengthen the workforce of tomorrow. The NIAC began studying this issue at the request of the National Security Council. After multiple high-profile natural disasters and cyber attacks, government officials realized a resilient critical infrastructure workforce is vital to national security. The report concludes the current workforce development system in the U.S. lacks coordination, data, and human capital management which is vital for ensuring a skilled infrastructure workforce. Additionally, the study compiles nine recommendations to improve the future workforce, including: tracking all spending on critical infrastructure, developing national training standards, and connecting education to career development among others.
