Earlier today, officials from the U.S. Department of Justice, including Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray, announced criminal indictments against computer hackers associated with the Chinese government. This case is significant because the hackers are accused of compromising Managed Service Providers (MSPs), which include Cloud Service Providers. According to the indictment, the hackers leveraged access to MSPs steal business information from companies around the world, including in the U.S., to gain competitive advantages for Chinese companies. The victims included companies in banking and finance, telecommunications and consumer electronics, medical equipment, packaging, manufacturing, consulting, healthcare, biotechnology, automotive, oil and gas exploration, and mining.
